How Does Someone Become a Candidate?

Municipal Candidates

An individual can become a candidate by filing the following information with the Returning Officer, beginning  May 2, 2022 during regular business hours and before Nomination Day of August 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.:

  • the prescribed Nomination Paper form 
  • a completed Consent to Release Personal Information
  • the prescribed nomination filing fee of $200 for the office of Mayor and $100 for the office of Councillor

The candidate or the agent filing the nomination form is required to present proof of identity. 

Candidates are encouraged to arrange an appointment in advance at (613)269‑4791 or via e-mail at to register their nomination. Candidates are asked to bring proof of identity and residence, along with the unsigned forms, with them to be signed in front of the Returning Officer or designate.
